YELLOWKNIFE (July 29, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has determined after a lengthy review of options that it will not be preserving the Robertson Headframe.

The GNWT entered into discussions with Miramar Mining Limited earlier this year about whether there was an opportunity to save the headframe from demolition, given its historical significances to the history of mining in the Northwest Territories and as an iconic feature of the Yellowknife area landscape.

Confidential discussions between the GNWT and Miramar have now concluded and the GNWT has determined that a suitable agreement could not be reached.

The GNWT appreciates Miramar’s efforts and its continued commitment to meeting the company’s remediation obligations at the Con Mine Site.
