2024 Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA) Workshop

Workshop Information

The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley, the Mackenzie Valley Review Board, the Government of the Northwest Territories, and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada will be hosting a  Resource Co-management Workshop, in Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ (Fort Simpson), NT from March 26th to March 27th, 2024 (in-person only).

Topics Include:

  • Co-management as a Mechanism for Treaty Implementation
  • Updates on Local Projects
  • Land Use Planning
  • Monitoring Activities
  • Forward-Looking Initiatives

The goal of the workshop is to help familiarize participants with the co-management and integrated system of land and water management established through the MVRMA and Land Claim and Self-Government Agreements. The workshop will provide an opportunity to share knowledge, ideas, experiences, and to discuss how to meaningfully participate in existing resource co-management processes. The workshop is also intended to increase community capacity to effectively participate in co-management decision-making and the ongoing review of proposed and ongoing regional project developments.

Registration closed March 22, 2024.

Funding and Contact Information

Limited funding will be available to cover the travel costs from regional hubs and honorarium of participants from Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations. Participants must be non-salaried to be eligible for honorarium.
